| BK144657 | KEN MILES Remebered Ken Miles follows his life from the early days in England to his tragic death at Riverside Raceway in 1966. Essentially a scrapbook, more than 130 photographs are included. Many are from private collections and have never before been published. A fascinating feature is remembrances written by some who knew Miles best, like Carroll Shelby, Augie Pabst, John Morton, Bill Pollack and Ken's son, Peter. Miles himself was an accomplished writer and a few articles he wrote are reprinted. The book starts off with a complete chronology from birth to death and ends with the eulogy delivered by the authors father and a never-before assembled race record. Miles second-place finish at the 1966 Le Mans was mired in controversy. This book goes some distance toward clarification. Interspersed throughout are articles from period publications. The scrapbook is held together with text by the author, a close friend of Miles and his family. Pages / Seiten: 128 Fotos / Fotos : color / b&w Text: Published: 2006 |

Remembering the Shelby Years 1962-1969 Perhaps no other
automobile has captured the imagination of motoring enthusiasts, racers
and the general public as has the Shelby American Cobra. Today, forty-some
years later, the powerful Cobra continues to be the most widely-recognized
and replicated automobile of all time. While it has been the subject of
many books, the whole truth has never been told, according to Carroll
Shelby, until now |

| BK137221 | SNAKE BIT Carroll Shelby's Controversial Series1 Sports Car
What Carroll Shelby wanted was a
2,400-pound sports car sheathed in carbon fiber that was the fastest road
car in the world. What he got was quite a different matter! The Series 1
was one of the most highly anticipated sports cars in living memory. It
was a magazine cover story seven times and countless more articles were
written about it. The car was eventually produced early in 2000-but it
reached its owners well behind schedule, at a higher price, and in smaller
numbers than first projected. The story of the Shelby Series 1 "is about
everything that could possibly go wrong and then did." Its a drama of
gigantic and aspiring egos, petty prerogatives, awesome talent,
bureaucratic bungling, and brilliant engineering. Of the many cars Shelby
created over his career, none was as controversial as the Series 1. Snake
Bit - an apt description of what happened to anyone and everyone involved
in the project - is required and captivating reading for the thousands of
Carroll Shelby fans throughout the world. |
